One of Shiva's first seven students, Bhrigu was a Sapta Rishi. It was routine for them to circle Shiva three times in order to express their love and reverence to him. Shiva was much delighted by the play and drew the woman in, assimilating her into himself until they were seated together. He lost a piece of himself to embrace her, becoming an Ardhanari.
